This week the Trial Chamber reconvened after a two-week recess over the New Year period, holding key document presentations on the role of the Accused. Only the Defense Team for Khieu Samphan chose to present documents this week, and was assigned two court sessions to do so on Wednesday morning. On Thursday afternoon, the Office of the Co-Prosecutors (OCP) was given one court session to respond to the documents presented by Khieu Samphan’s international Counsel. During his response, international Co-Prosecutor cited documents not used in Khieu Samphan’s original presentation, which elicited objections from that Defense Team. The Chamber decided to allow the OCP to continue in this manner, and will provide the Khieu Samphan Defense with the opportunity to rebut next week.
