This week saw the conclusion of the testimony of expert witness Professor David Chandler. Apart from testifying on the history of the CPK, Professor Chandler answered incisive and grueling questions on his research methodology and sources of information. Accused Nuon Chea chose to break his silence to pose two questions on Professor Chandler.
The second Witness, Mr. Rochoem Ton, testified that he had close interactions with Pol Pot and the leaders of the CPK beginning late 1967. He provided detailed testimony as regards the structure and activities of the CPK, including actions of the leaders around the time of the “liberation” of Phnom Penh in April 1975.
Chandler and Rochoem Ton were forthcoming during their testimonies, making this week’s proceedings fast-paced and highly informative.
